4-H apple, peanut and honey sale begins
The Henrico County Extension Office has launched its annual 4-H apple, peanut and honey sale. Proceeds will benefit local 4-H youth programs.
The sale features Virginia-grown produce, including: Winesap and York apples, $16 per half bushel;raw peanuts, with recipes, $9 per two-pound sack; deluxe cocktail peanuts, salted and unsalted, $12 per two-pound sack; and honey, $7 per one-pound jar.
Order forms are available at the Extension Office, located in the Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive; at any Henrico County library; online at http://www.co.henrico.va.us/extension; and by calling 501-5160 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Because supplies are limited, orders placed after Friday, Oct. 21 will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Staff will distribute orders Nov. 8-9 at the Human Services Building loading dock.

In Varina, one of the most anticipated events of the season is approaching. The 19th Annual Big Toy Parade will return on Dec 14, offering a “homey,” small-town feel that helps elicit holiday spirit among participants and spectators alike.
The parade, which begins at 3 p.m., is sponsored by the Battlefield Ruritans and Henrico County Parks and Recreation and is held in conjunction with the James River Boat Parade. It is led by a grand marshal along Old Osborne Turnpike and ends at the Osborne Boat Landing, where hundreds of community members gather to await nightfall and the arrival of lighted boats, concluding a festive holiday celebration. > Read more.
