2012 ‘All Henrico Reads’ selection announced

The Henrico County Public Library, in partnership with Henrico County Public Schools and the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, announced that The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is the 2012 "All Henrico Reads" selection. Henrico County will host the author on Thursday, Apr. 5, 2012, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Glen Allen High School, 10700 Staples Mill Road, Glen Allen. Books will be available for sale, and the author will autograph books following the program.
The book is the humorous and uplifting story of family, love, loyalty and hope is told against the backdrop of car racing. It is examines the wonders and absurdities of human life as narrated by the opinionated and insightful voice of a dog, Enzo. In 2009, Stein won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association award for this novel. The Art of Racing in the Rain has been on the New York Times bestseller list for 119 weeks. Stein earned a B.A. in 1987 from Columbia College of Columbia University and later received a Master of Fine Arts degree in film from the University's School of the Arts. He worked as a director, producer and/or writer of documentary films, and in 1991, he co-produced an Academy Award winning short film, The Lunch Date. The race car driving experiences of the novel are based on Stein's own experience racing cars. This event is free and open to the public. Seating will be first come, first served. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
