Thirteen Henrico County public safety officers who died during service to the community are among the 765 public safety officials statewide whose lives and service will be commemorated on the initial roster of the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial, which will be built in Capitol Square in Richmond next year. The list of names was announced this week by the Virginia Public Safety Foundation, a nonprofit that is serving as the memorial's administrator.

“I am humbled by the length of this roster of Virginia heroes and the magnitude of their sacrifice for our safety and security,” said Memorial Co-Chair Jerry Kilgore. “During this holiday season, I hope that all Virginians will keep in their hearts and prayers the families of these 765 men and women, many of which still feel the greatest pain of their loss at this time of year.”

VPSF formally launched the campaign to raise $2 million for construction of the monument in May 2012. In total, $800,000 in private contributions has been secured.

“VPSF is honored to have played a role in compiling this historic roster,” said VPSF President Hadden Culp, a retired firefighter from Prince William. “This long roster of names represents so much heroism and sacrifice deserving of our respect.”

The Henrico officials whose names will be engraved on the memorial are: Lewis Ray Beddow; Andre Gerard Booker; Cecil Allen Broughman Jr.; James Ronald Clarke; William Herman Edwards III; Helmut Mark Fano; Richard F. Gentry; Welford Early Green; John Patrick Harris; Barry Wayne Maham; Donald Aubrey Stillman; Jerry Edwin Trimmer; John Haines Yarbrough.
