$100k lottery prize from Henrico ticket still unclaimed

Would you walk around with $100,000 in your pocket or the glove compartment of your car? Probably not. But one Virginia Lottery player may be unknowingly doing just that.

Someone bought a ticket for the March 26 Cash 5 day drawing at Happy Shopper, 1290 N. Laburnum Ave. in Henrico County. That ticket turned out to be a $100,000 winner. Whoever has that ticket has not come forward to claim the prize.

According to Virginia Lottery rules, winning tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. In this case, since the 180-day period ends on a Saturday, the winner has until close of business the next business day, which is 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24.

The winning numbers were 8-19-23-28-31. The ticket matched all five numbers. The person who has that ticket should contact the Virginia Lottery immediately at 692-7000.

All Virginia Lottery unclaimed prize money goes to the state Literary Fund. The Literary Fund is used solely for educational purposes, such as school construction, renovation and teacher retirement funding. Since its inception in 1988, the Lottery has transferred more than $222 million in unclaimed prizes to Virginia’s Literary Fund.

“It’s not my hair that makes my beauty,” said Morris, who lost her hair as a chemotherapy side effect, “it’s my heart.” > Read more.
