Deep Run Marathon Dance breaks $1M mark

Deep Run High School's annual dance marathon is now a million-dollar event.

After 27 hours of dancing this past weekend, event organizers have revealed that since its inception, the Deep Run Marathon Dance (DRMD) has raised a combined total of $1.1 million. This year alone, after months of fundraising and planning, the dance raised $243,855.

“If you are like me, you are blown away by that number,” said Deep Run Principal Lenny Pritchard. “If you could have been there on Saturday night, you would have seen how much this means to the local charities and organizations and how emotionally connected to this our students were.”

The money raised will benefit 12 charitable organizations that were chosen by this year’s DRMD committee.

“Although I am always proud to be the principal of Deep Run High School, few if any moments in my time here rival this event and the amount of time and effort it takes from our students, faculty and staff, and community,” Pritchard said. “I am proud to be a Wildcat!”
