Henrico PAL honors supporters

The Henrico Police Athletic League held its fourth annual awards banquet Feb. 7 at The Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen to celebrate its accomplishments and honor the contributions of its 2012 award winners. Former NFL head coach Bobby Ross served as keynote speaker, while Henrico County Juvenile Domestic Court Judge Denis Soden served as the master of ceremony.

Honorees, pictured above, left to right, were (standing) Carol Wilson-King (2012 Employee of the Year), Chanay Taylor (2012 Employee of the Year), Sergeant Kenneth Ragland (five years of service to the program), Kennedy Goldsborough (2012 Youth of the Year), Louise Whitehead (2012 Volunteer of the Year), Don Blake (2012 Board Member of the Year); and (sitting) Kevin Roye, Henrico Assistant Director of Pupil Transportation (significant contribution to the summer camps), Lori Carter-Evans , Henrico Director of Pupil Transportation (significant contribution to the summer camps), and Virgil Hazelett, former Henrico County manager (significant contribution and support).

Reynolds CC to host sculptor Paul DiPasquale


Reynolds Community College will host Richmond sculptor Paul DiPasquale Sept. 28 as he shares his presentation “Art Talk, Why Art Matters” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Conference Center Gallery of the Workforce Development and Conference Center on the Parham Road Campus, located at 1651 E. Free children’s clothing for those in need

The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year. The Clothing Closet will be open from 10 a.m. to noon both days. The church is located at 22 North Holly Avenue. > Read more.

Three local churches are holding events on Saturday: A Fall Veterans and Community Health Fair and Blood Drive at Antioch Baptist Church in Varina; a Fall Children’s Consignment Sale at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in the West End; and a Community Day event at Fair Oaks Baptist Church in Highland Springs.
