School briefs - Deep Run High School
|
A huge decision was made recently by all of the students at DRHS regarding the numerous classes they will be taking next year. While for most students it feels that the year has just begun, they had to begin considering what they want to take for their next year of school. It was an arduous process because we know that the classes we choose will affect our performance and ability to do well in the year ahead.
School counselors visited English classes to discuss scheduling and to answer questions about the process. Teachers also had the responsibility of registering their students for their core courses online from Jan. 28-30. After that, students were provided with forms that include the teacher’s core recommendations. They also included elective classes that would be available. The forms were signed by the teachers for elective classes and brought home for the parents to sign. Those forms must have been returned to the students' extended study teachers by Feb. 15. In some cases, parents will wish to override a teacher’s decision of their child in a certain class. DRHS recommends that the overrides be submitted by March 15 to ensure that students have the classes that they want. Although, final overrides will be accepted until April 30. If there are any questions regarding scheduling for the 2013-2014 school year, counselors will be available on Feb. 5,26 for individual conferences. An elective/curriculum fair night was held Jan. 29. |
