The Child & Family Healing Center (CFHC) at United Methodist Family Services (UMFS) will open a new four bed cottage on Feb. 4. The new cottage, named the Generosity Cottage, will be used by children currently in the CFHC program who are one to three months away from successfully completing the program and are beginning to prepare to return to their communities. The cottage will be gender-specific and the space used flexibly dependent on the needs of the program. The CFHC is an intensive residential treatment program for girls ages 11 to 18 with emotional and behavioral problems and for boys ages 11 to 18 who have engaged in sexually harmful behaviors.
The board of directors for Central Virginia’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) has elected the following officers to serve in 2013: chair - Roderick W. Simmons, Hirschler Fleischer; vice chair - Matthew Neels, Capital One Financial Corp; secretary - Isabelle Hilliard, Old Dominion Home Health Services; treasurer - Harry Garmon, The Bookkeeping Department; general counsel - John Adams, McGuire Woods LLP; president & CEO: Thomas J. Gallagher; and senior vice president - Barbara Homiller. The following individuals were elected to three-year terms on the BBB’s board of directors: Deborah Kurdts-Peery, Primrose School of Midlothian Village; Barry Moore, Haley Buick GMC; Daniel Moskowitz, SunTrust Bank; J. Quintin Mullins, Mullins Investment Services; and Thomas Winfree, Village Bank.
Several professionals affiliated with Capitol Financial Solutions recently were recognized as top performers by qualifying for membership into the Million Dollar Roundtable. They are Matthew D. Brotherton, Catherine L. Danford, Kappy Gross, J. Cory Hoffer, Kenny Kapinskis, Kristopher T. Olexy and Robert E. Snidow, of Richmond.

The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).

The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin.
