School briefs - Tuckahoe Middle School

In Henrico County, there are families in need. Warm coats and food can be in short supply for families struggling to make ends meet. Students at Tuckahoe Middle School (TMS) have seen this need and risen to action, learning the lesson of giving and helping the less fortunate.

The ‘Coats for Kids’ Drive was recently held at TMS. Throughout the school, classes competed against each other to see who could gather the most coats. Altogether, 227 coats were collected and donated to local children.

TMS also assisted the local Henrico Christmas Mother charity with its canned food drive. Teachers and students brought in a can (or two) to donate. There was also a goodhearted competition between classes, to see who could bring in the most cans. Altogether, 2,918 canned goods were gathered up. While Ms. Robertson’s class raised the most cans, it was the Christmas Mother and those in need who were the real winners.

The Christmas Mother also asked for children’s books. Our TMS library and students responded by having a book drive. Altogether, 597 books were donated and given to this charity. This allowed the Christmas Mother to provide four books for each child they service.

Tuckahoe Middle School faculty and students saw a need in the community and acted. They came together as one to gather coats, food and books. Tuckahoe Middle School students have learned the valuable lesson that giving is better than receiving.
