Villa receives outdoor classroom

Thirty-five volunteers from Dominion constructed an outdoor classroom at the St. Joseph’s Villa campus Nov. 27, completing the Villa’s newly installed learning and therapy garden. The garden serves all of the nonprofit’s clientele, including at-risk and developmentally disabled children.

Teachers will utilize the outdoor classroom to promote sensory, hands-on learning in all subjects, especially those related to science and nutrition. The outdoor classroom consists of durable benches with backs, a podium and a weather-resistant whiteboard.

“Dominion is a long and cherished partner at the Villa,” said Kathleen Burke Barrett, CEO of St. Joseph’s Villa. “They were one of our largest corporate donors to the campaign to redevelop our 82-acre campus, and this outdoor classroom builds on the work we’ve done over the last five years to transform our campus into a tool for outdoor learning and therapy.”
