Libraries offering ‘always available’ e-books
![]() Henrico County Public Library recently added an additional way to check out e-books, known as "Freading." Freading, is a new service that provides “always available” eBooks through a lending system that uses weekly tokens. Freading has been made available to public libraries throughout the state through funding from the Library Service and Technology Act granted by the Institute of Museums and Library Service administered by the Library of Virginia. Freading offers over 20,000 titles that are always available for checkout with a Henrico County Public Library card. At the beginning of each week, library members receive five tokens that can be used for e-books, at a cost of one, two or four tokens per title. Loans are two weeks and can be renewed for an additional two weeks. Freading e-books are compatible with most mobile devices and e-readers, including Nooks, iPads, and Android devices.
