Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital has achieved “Triple Crown” from Thomson Reuters, an industry leader in health care data. The hospital has been recognized three times this year—for excellence in overall organization performance in the 2012 Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals study; as a recipient of the Everest Award, which honors hospitals that have achieved both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over a five-year period; and as one of the nation’s 50 Top Hospitals for Cardiovascular Care. Bon Secours Richmond Health System has announced the opening of the new St. Mary’s Wound Care Center at Reynolds Crossing. The health system’s second full-service wound care center offers highly specialized treatment for chronic wounds, including hospital-based outpatient wound care, disease management and diabetes care. Dr. Gregg L. Londrey, of Virginia Surgical Associates, will serve as medical director. The Center is located at 6900 Forest Ave., Suite 115, in the Reynolds Crossing medical complex. The National Institutes of Health–National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has awarded Laura Runyen-Janecky, associate professor of biology at the University of Richmond, a three-year, $344,059 grant to continue her work on bacteria carried by tsetse flies and their potential implications for tsetse-borne disease. Runyen-Janecky’s project will be conducted with research assistance from Richmond undergraduates and in collaboration with professors in Yale University’s Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale University School of Medicine. Runyen-Janecky was a visiting associate professor at Yale in 2010. Funds will be used for employing undergraduate students for summer research, materials, supplies and travel to present results. Runyen-Janecky has taught at Richmond since 2002.
