Virginia Credit Union members are now able to deposit checks from virtually anywhere, at any time, using their smartphones. VACU mobile banking users deposit checks by taking a picture of the check using the camera on their iPhone or Android smartphone. Since launching mobile banking last summer, nearly 35,000 of VACU’s members have signed up. VACU also recently launched a new service for online banking members, Money Tracker. The free personal financial management tool helps members manage and track income, expenses and spending. Members may also create a savings goal and monitor their progress toward achieving their goal month by month.
Averett University’s Glen Allen Campus, 4880 Cox Rd. in Innsbrook, will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27. The fair is open to the community and will feature workshops on resume writing, interview skills and electronic job searching. Sports Backers announced today the first-ever Martin’s Tour of Richmond cycling event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6. This ‘Gran Fondo’ will feature a full 102-mile loop around Richmond as well as a 58-mile option and a 29-mile option. The full 102-mile course starts and finishes at the Richmond International Raceway complex, which is also the site of the post-ride party for all three distances. The 58-mile course is projected to start at the J. Sargeant Reynolds Goochland Campus, and the 29-mile course is projected to start at Poor Farm Park in Hanover. The post-ride celebration will feature live entertainment, beer and dinner for all participants. Sports Backers’ new Active RVA initiative, a program focusing on making the Richmond area more bike and pedestrian friendly, will serve as the official charity. Barry M. Taylor, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Richmond, has announced his retirement from the organization effective December 31. Taylor has been with the YMCA for more than 36 years and served associations in Maryland, Pennsylvania and California before coming to Richmond in 2002. During his tenure, the Y was able to provide over $6 million in financial assistance to families and individuals and delivered programs for students in seven school districts. Taylor has also helped oversee partnerships with dozens of nonprofit organizations. Jamelle Wilson, vice-chair of the Y’s board of directors, is leading a search committee that has been formed by the board.

Event will help kick of Marine Corps' 'Toys for Tots' campaign
All 140 A.C. Moore locations will serve as drop-off centers this year for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, and all toys collected will stay in the local communities served by the stores in which they are donated.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Willow Lawn location will kick off the month-long program by hosting a "Make & Take" craft event for kids. Children ages six and older will be able to make a craft and take it home with them. Representatives from the Marines will be in-store to teach customers about the Toys for Tots program. A.C. Commonwealth Catholic Charities is in desperate need of food donations for its community food pantry that serves the region’s low-income families, according to officials with the Henrico-based nonprofit.
After moving into its new location this past summer, the agency has dedicated a larger space for the pantry but the shelves are practically empty.
“As we head into the holidays and the weather turns colder, the need for food becomes even more critical, but unfortunately our cupboards are nearly bare,” said Jay Brown, the agency’s director for the division of housing services. “Donations of food will allow us help provide.” > Read more.

The Cultural Arts Center unveils a new exhibit – "Sizing Up!" – Nov. 20-Jan. 18 in the Gumenick Family Gallery.
Artist Chuck Larivey has spent the past three years "sizing up" – creating large-scale oil paintings that are designed to engage their viewers in a monumental way by using size to captivate them and make them a part of the artistic experience.
