Cat dies in Northside condo fire
|
No one was injured in a condominium fire this morning in the 1500 block of Front Royal Drive, just off East Parham Road near its intersection with Brook Road, but the fire caused the death of a cat inside the residence.
Henrico firefighters responded to the unit at about 9 a.m. today after receiving several 911 calls indicating smoke coming from the building. Fire crews arrived within minutes to find heavy fire visible from the front side of the unit. No occupants were home at the time of the fire. Units under and adjacent to the fire unit were evacuated while crews fought the blaze. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. Four units were evacuated during the fire as the result of smoke and high carbon monoxide levels in the units. Occupants were let back in after those levels dissipated. The occupant of the condo that burned will be displaced as the result of the fire damage, fire officials said, while the occupant of the unit below will be displaced as the result of water damage. Fire investigators from Henrico County are on scene conducting an origin and cause investigation. |
