T.J.Maxx will join Cabela's and Wegmans in the new West Broad Marketplace shopping center in Short Pump later this month.
The company's new 23,000-square-foot store will open at 8 a.m. Sept. 18, and the first 1,000 shoppers will receive reusable bags.

AUG. 31 – One person received minor injuries in a Glen Allen house fire early Wednesday morning.
At about 4:10 a.m., Henrico Division of Fire units responded to the report of a mattress on fire in the house, located in the 4900 block of Darrowby Road near Francistown Road. Units arrived to find flames coming from a second story bedroom window.
Firefighters immediately went inside to extinguish the fire and search for victims. They found both occupants and their dog outside, and the fire was contained to the bedroom. > Read more.

Malvern Hill Farm, a 900-plus-acre homestead in Varina that has been owned by the same family for several generations, has been listed for sale. Commonwealth Commercial Partners, LLC will handle the sale of the property, located north of New Market Road and west of Carters Mill Road. The asking price is $10.6 million.
About one-third of the historic property is actively farmed and the rest is wooded. Acquired by William Ferguson in the 1930s, today the farm is owned by multiple generations of the same family. Malvern Hill Hunt Club has been caring for the farm for decades. > Read more.

Richmond International Airport Police arrested a Newport News man on state weapons charges after he was stopped by Transportation Security Administration officers at the airport checkpoint June 27 when TSA officers detected a .38 caliber handgun with five bullets tucked inside his backpack.
The traveler told TSA officials that he had the gun in his carry-on bag because he had guests with children visiting him this past weekend. He told officials that he did not want the children to have access to the gun, so he hid it inside his backpack. > Read more.
Splash pool, dog park among featured amenities

The wait is over for eager kids (and dogs) looking to enjoy the new Short Pump Park.
Henrico Recreation and Parks officials cut the ribbon June 25 on a park that has been 18 years in the making. The property, on Pump Road adjacent to Three Chopt Road, includes a large playground, a splash area with spray fountains and a one-acre dog park.
The grand opening was well attended, with hundreds of locals gathering to take part in the festivities. Many of those who helped make the park a reality attended the dedication ceremony. > Read more.

The Henrico Division of Police is seeking the public's help to identify a woman who tried to enter a secure part of a building in the Near West End last week.
The woman tried to access the secure area in the 1600 block of Forest Avenue June 22. She was denied by staff members at the location.
The suspect is described as a black female with a medium complexion, weighing between 120 and 130 pounds, with short hair and glasses. She is pictured above. > Read more.

The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year.
