West End apartment fire injures 1


SEPT. 25, 10:30 A.M. – A West End apartment fire injured one person Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out in the third floor of the Chase Gayton apartment complex in the 10 block of Chase Gayton Drive, near the intersection of Gaskins Road and Quioccasin Road, at about 1:20 p.m. Sept. 24.

Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week: Sept. 25, 2017


Crime stoppers needs your help to solve a double homicide that occurred in the City of Richmond in June of this year.

On Wednesday, June 7, at approximately 9:53 p.m., Richmond police officers responded to several calls for random gunfire in the 3600 block of Decatur Street. They arrived and found the victims, two males, Christian Singleton and Ketron Wells. The victims were outside on the ground lying near each other. Both victims had received fatal gunshot wounds.

McEachin announces 2017 Congressional App Challenge


Congressman A. Donald McEachin is accepting applications for the 2017 Congressional App Challenge through Nov. 1, his office announced this week.

VCCS cyber security advisory board holds first meeting


The Virginia Community College System Cyber Security Advisory Board, a newly formed group designed to ensure that the Commonwealth’s two-year cyber curriculum remains up-to-date and imparts real-world skills, recently held its first meeting.

This first-in-the-nation initiative will build on the already considerable momentum behind Virginia’s cyber security industry.

Highland Springs HS teacher chosen as teacher of the year for Central Virginia


Greenlee Naughton’s accolades keep growing. The Highland Springs High School English teacher was named Monday as one of Virginia’s eight 2018 regional teachers of the year.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe surprised Naughton Monday morning with an announcement at a school assembly that had been billed as a celebration of Highland Springs’ second straight year of full accreditation. In May, Henrico County Public Schools named Naughton its top teacher for 2017.

The 25th Annual Math Science Innovation Center Chip In for Education Golf Tournament will be held at The Golf Club at the Highlands, beginning at noon with a shotgun start. The cost is $600 for a foursome or $700 for a foursome plus sponsorship of one hole. Other levels of sponsorship and participation also are available.
