Kevin Sullivan wins Democratic nomination, will compete in Jan. 13 special election

DEC. 23, 11 A.M. – Henrico County School Board member Lamont Bagby fell several votes short in his attempt to win the Democratic nomination to seek the 74th District House of Delegates seat in a Jan. 13 special election.
Bagby lost by eight votes – 24 to 16 – in a firehouse primary to Charles City resident Kevin Sullivan, a former International Brotherhood of Teamsters political coordinator. Former 74th District representative Floyd Miles finished third.
Only about 100 Democrats in the district (which spans portions of Henrico and Richmond and all of Charles City County) were eligible to vote – those who are active members of the Democratic committees in one of the three localities – and only a few more than 40 turned out. > Read more.

Short Pump Town Center has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that took place during the past several months.
The center has added landscaping, walkways lit with hanging lanterns, new gathering spaces withseating under heated pavilions, fountains, a new pedestrian bridge spanning the main plaza, additional covered bridges, updated restrooms, a centrally located glass elevator, a new children's play village in the food court and an outdoor play area in the main plaza, in addition to a fireplace. > Read more.

Curbside recycling and trash collections through CVWMA will be delayed one day the week of Sept. 3 because of Monday's Labor Day holiday.
No collections will be made on Monday; thus all collections during this week will occur on the day following the normal collection day. Friday collections will occur on Saturday. > Read more.
Henrico Police Chief Douglas A. Middleton earned the CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) Police Chief of the Year award from CIT International last week at the annual CIT International Conference in Las Vegas, Nev. The Aug. 21 presentation was attended by more than 1,000 people from the United States and other countries.
CIT International is a non-profit membership organization whose primary purpose is to facilitate understanding, development and implementation of Crisis Intervention Team programs. They promote and support collaborative efforts to create and sustain more effective and safer interactions among law enforcement, mental health care providers, individuals with mental illness, their families and communities. > Read more.

In its first grant cycle of the 2012-2013 school year, The Henrico Education Foundation (HEF) funded 21 grants totaling just more than $42,000, one of which will impact 410 of Tucker’s new ninth-graders. This grant funded staff training in utilizing some of the newest online organization and remediation tools for students who are new to the demands of high school.
“The students in ninth grade struggle academically more than any other grade level,” said Jonathan Morris, an assistant principal at Tucker High School.
Morris worked with Andrea Lund, Tucker’s technology resource teacher, to design the project. > Read more.
Henrico Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating Tyrell Eliphues Davis, who is wanted for eight charges including two felony charges of larceny. Davis is also a person of interest in several other larcenies in Henrico County.
Davis is a 22 year old black male, approximately 5’11” and 195 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address is in the 4100 block of North Avenue in Richmond. > Read more.

Henrico residents can recycle their Christmas trees after the holidays at one of several locations in the county.
From Dec. 26 through Jan. 11, trees will be accepted at the following spots:
• Springfield Road Landfill Public Use Area, near Nuckols Road and I-295 – open from 7:30 am to 7 pm daily, except holidays;

CVWMA curbside recycling collection and trash collections will have a one day delay in collections Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2. There will be no collections on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
Curbside recycling collections Monday through Wednesday will be on regular schedule. Red Thursday and Red Friday curbside recyclers will have a one day delay in collection services Dec. 25-26. Blue Thursday and Blue Friday curbside recyclers will have one day delay in collection services Jan. 1-2. Containers should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will host a candlelight vigil of remembrance and hope Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the University of Richmond, outside the Cannon Chapel. Was anyone asking for an extra-large helping of Larry the Cable Guy this Christmas? If so, you can thank Santa Claus for Jingle All the Way 2.
