Rock on!


The painted rocks craze is thriving in Henrico, as a walk around the grounds of local libraries and parks will demonstrate. This rock was spotted near Libbie Mill Library, and there's a slideshow of many more uniquely-painted stones on the RVA Rocks Facebook page (https://facebook.com/groups/RVARocks/).

Painting and hiding rocks is a family activity appropriate for all ages, and parents especially like the way it fosters creativity and gets kids outdoors.

Goochland man arrested at RIC with gun


A Goochland County man was arrested at Richmond International Airport July 19 after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the traveler’s carry-on bag.

A TSA officer detected the 9 mm caliber handgun inside the man’s carry-on bag as it entered the security checkpoint X-ray machine. The handgun was loaded with 12 bullets.

Kansas man struck, killed while crossing West Broad Street

A 54-year-old Kansas man was struck and killed by a car while attempting to cross West Broad Street near Bethlehem Road in the Near West End at about 10:30 p.m., July 19.

Julius A. McBride of Overland Park, Kansas, was struck by a car traveling east on West Broad Street.

FIT to be served

Police work to track down 3,000+ wanted persons

Henrico Police Sgt. Jeff Carroll has a never-ending to-do list.

As the sergeant in charge of the Fugitive Investigation Team (FIT), Carroll and the four detectives under his command are responsible for tracking down and bringing in the thousands of people in the county with outstanding warrants. But with every warrant served, others come in.

There are currently 3,352 outstanding warrants in Henrico County. In a county the size of Henrico, that equals roughly 1 percent of the population, although many individuals have multiple warrants.

Henrico candidates forum scheduled for May 12

Democrats seeking 74th District House seat, Republicans seeking 12th District Senate seat to appear

The Henrico County NAACP Branch and Henrico Minsters Conference will sponsor the Henrico County Candidates Town Hall Forum, Tuesday, May 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church, 2040 Mountain Road, Glen Allen.

Candidates for two General Assembly seats who will compete in two June 9 primary contests have been invited to attend.

Candidates invited who are seeking the 74th House of Delegates Democratic nomination are Stephen R. Adkins, Lamont Bagby and Leonidas B. Young II.

Henrico to offer rabies vaccinations for pets May 16


The Henrico County Police Division will provide rabies vaccines for dogs and cats from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16 at the Henrico County Government Center, 4301 E. Parham Road.

Pet owners must register and pay at the cashier’s office in the Administration Building before seeing a veterinarian on the first level of the adjacent parking deck.

Each vaccine costs $10 and must be paid in cash. A rabies tag and certificate of inoculation are included. Pets from all localities are welcome. Cats must be in carriers.
