Awards honor emergency responders

They were young and old, big and small, but the individuals presented with awards at the Henrico Division of Fire recognition ceremony May 23 had one characteristic in common: modesty.
“If you were to ask them if they did anything,” Henrico Fire Chief Anthony E. McDowell said of those being honored at the Henrico County Government Center, “they would just say they were doing their job.” > Read more.

A local woman recently pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Memphis, Tenn., to two counts of mail and wire fraud. Mary Ann Smith, 42, had served as the vice president of marketing for International Business Network (IBN), formerly based at Paragon Place in western Henrico County. > Read more.

Valentine History Center offers historic images online

The Valentine Richmond History Center announced this week that it now offers more than 500 items from its Cased Image Collection online. The center's online collections database is free and accessible to the public at http://www.richmondhistorycenter.com/agree.asp It co.ntains approximately 15 percent of the institution's total collection. Bickmeier named president of RIR

International Speedway Corporation today announced it has named Dennis Bickmeier president of RIR effective immediately. Bickmeier has been serving as vice president of consumer sales and marketing for Michigan International Speedway. Qualifying senior citizens can receive free relief from summer heat through the 23rd annual Fan Care program, which provides fans and cooling assistance to seniors 60 and older in need.
