Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week – June 26, 2017


Richmond detectives need the public’s help to identify the vehicle and suspects in the shooting incident of a 7-year-old boy and an adult male. Can you help Crime Stoppers solve this latest shooting?

The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of North 22nd Street in the Fairmount neighborhood of the city. Officers arrived and found the two victims near a bus stop.

Richmond Montessori School earns VAIS reaccreditation


Richmond Montessori School, an independent Montessori school for children ages 2 to 14, recently earned reaccreditation from the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. The VAIS accreditation program is one of only a few recognized at the national level through the National Association of Independent School's Commission on Accreditation and is also recognized and approved by the Virginia Board of Education through the Virginia Council for Private Education.

Neil Burton, the founder of Strangeways Brewing in Henrico, will serve on the 2017-18 Leadership Council of The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild (VCBG). Burton will share the chairmanship of the Marketing & Tourism Committee with Kevin Erskine of Coelacanth Brewing. Other local brewers in leadership positions include Eric McKay of Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (VCBG chair), Hunter Smith of Champion Brewing Company (co-chair of the Government Affairs Committee) and Kate Lee of Hardywood (co-chair of the Quality Committee).

3 community meetings planned about September UCI championship cycling races


Richmond 2015, the organizers of the UCI Road World Championships, will host a series of informational meetings to help the community “Get Race Ready”! The series of meetings will take place daily the first two weeks of August at various times and locations throughout the region.

Three of the meetings will be held in Henrico:

• Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at John Rolfe Middle School in Varina;

• Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Lakeside;

Three Henrico students participating in 8-day James River Expedition


Three Henrico-area high-school students will embark on an eight-day journey down the James River Saturday along with seven other nearby students as part of the James River Expedition program.

The three Henrico students — Jillian Stuckey, John Vithoulkas and Jack Drimer — will participate in the third and final leg of the expedition, traveling along the James River from Richmond to the Chesapeake Bay. Along the way, the group will make several stops to learn about the science and history of the river.

CASA volunteers sworn in


Henrico County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) welcomed seven new volunteers July 8 during a ceremony. The volunteers were sworn in by Rondelle D. Herman, chief judge of the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The new CASA volunteers (pictured) are Denise Motley, Barbara Lent, Sandra Hubbard, Erika Coleman, Barbara Anderson, Wayne Redmond and Anthony Ford (not pictured).
