Urban Farmhouse Market and Cafe, a popular local chain of cafes and coffehouses, has expanded into Henrico, with the opening of a location at Rocketts Landing.
The new location, at 4821 Old Main Street, is the company's sixth in the region and first in the county. A seventh location is planned for the Linden Row Inn in downtown Richmond. > Read more.

The new Cross Grain Brewhouse restaurant and bar will open at Richmond International Airport this week. The location will hold its grand opening Wednesday, Aug. 24. The restaurant, operated by Delaware North Travel Hospitality Services, will feature a menu with house-made items and a focus on local craft beers. > Read more.
HCA Virginia’s Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s Virginia Transplant Center recently was recognized as one of 12 hospitals across the country that has agreed to participate in the National Kidney Registry’s Advanced Donation Program.
The ADP is a paired exchange separated in time that allows a medically and psychosocially acceptable donor to donate their kidney before their intended recipient receives a kidney. Some ADP donors have donated only weeks before their intended recipient was transplanted and others may be donating now, while they are healthy enough to donate, to secure a future transplant for a loved one who may not yet need a transplant (or another transplant). > Read more.
LaJune Brown didn’t get much sleep the night before she claimed her prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game. The Henrico woman woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep, so she decided to check her tickets. That’s when she discovered she had two tickets that matched all five winning numbers in the June 3 Cash 5 night drawing.
Those two tickets each won the game’s $100,000 top prize, for a total of $200,000. She bought both tickets at Quik Stop, 3200 Darbytown Road in Henrico.
The winning numbers were 5-8-12-20-29. She selected her numbers from important family dates. > Read more.

Boyle falls 4 signatures short of qualifying for November special election

UPDATE: JUNE 17, 10 A.M. – A longtime Henrico teacher and a Glen Allen dentist will compete in a special election this November for the right to serve the final year of a four-year term on the Henrico County School Board, after the interim representative failed to submit enough acceptable signatures to appear on the ballot.
Short Pump Elementary School intervention teacher Michelle “Micky” Ogburn and Glen Allen dentist Surya P. Dhakar are seeking to serve the final year of the Three Chopt District board seat that Diana Winston won in 2011 and from which she resigned last August. They will face each other in a Nov. 4 election.
The interim Three Chopt District board member, attorney Robert G. Boyle, Jr. (who was appointed by the board in October) fell four signatures short of qualifying for the ballot, when Henrico Registrar Mark Coakley's office disallowed 57 of the 178 signatures he included with his filing. > Read more.

Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Red, White, and Lights” at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park July 4.
Henrico County has hosted a Fourth of July celebration annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time and expanded hours and be highlighted by new entertainment.
The free event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will feature the Richmond Symphony, a laser-light show, patriotic performances, and family activities. > Read more.
