Event to benefit low-income homeowners
River Road United Methodist Church will host its fifth Run 2 Rebuild Richmond Saturday, Oct. 1 to raise money for Rebuilding Together Richmond.
The event will include a 5K run/walk, a one-mile “Fun Run” and a wellness fair. Event proceeds will benefit Rebuilding Together Richmond, a local non-profit that brings volunteers together to repair the homes of low-income homeowners. > Read more.

An early morning single-vehicle crash in Eastern Henrico Sunday killed a 34-year-old Richmond man, and Henrico Police arrested the vehicle's driver and charged her with driving under the influence.
At 2:46 a.m. Sept. 25, Henrico Police and Fire personnel responded to Osborne Turnpike near the intersection of River Bend Estates Drive for a single vehicle accident.
A Chevrolet van was traveling west on Osborne Turnpike when it ran off of the right side of the roadway and into a ditch. > Read more.

The Henrico County Public Library system will host three "death cafés" – gatherings during which attendees can discuss death and dying in what the library terms "surprisingly upbeat and informative guided discussions" led by spiritual and bereavement counselor Alane Miles.
The events will provide attendees the opportunity to ask any and all questions about the topics of death, dying, grief and funeral practices, in an informal setting. Miles has 20 years of experience in the hospice field, hosts the Death Club Radio show on WRIR and writes for Style Weekly. Registration is not required. > Read more.

The Henrico Economic Development Authority will host two innovation events in October designed to inspire entrepreneurs who are starting new businesses and to support business owners who are seeking to take their companies to the next level. The events will be held on back-to-back days at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.
The EDA’s Catalyst business workshop on Thursday, Oct. 16, will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is targeted to business owners who want to advance their businesses. It will include a handful of rapid-fire sessions about common business pain points and trending topics of 2014, networking segments and “work team” breakout sessions designed to address problem-solving and promote group sharing. > Read more.

Fifteen Henrico elementary school teachers recently were selected to participate in a free year-long professional development project designed to change the way science is taught in schools across the state.The Virginia Initiative for Science Teaching and Achievement (VISTA) teaches teachers how to shift from the traditional lecture-led classroom to problem-based learning (examining “real world” problems and thinking like scientists to find solutions).
More teachers from Henrico are participating than from any other school district in the state. > Read more.
Henrico Police are seeking a male suspect who robbed an Exxon station in the West End last month.
On Monday, July 28, shortly before midnight, the male suspect entered the station in the 8000 block of Quioccasin Road. The suspect displayed a handgun and made demands of the adult male cashier. The cashier complied, and the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported. > Read more.
