Henrico Theatre Company to present “Driving Miss Daisy” Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 at CACGA

The Henrico Theatre Company will present “Driving Miss Daisy” Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Taking place in the deep South in 1948 just prior to the civil rights movement, this is a warmhearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady and a proud, soft-spoken black man. All performances are at 8 p.m. except for Sunday matinees which start at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors (55+) and students. Artist Nancy Blum, Professor Eric Brenner to present “The Art and Science of Plant Dynamics”

Artist Nancy Blum, whose exhibition of new drawings opens Nov. 3 at the Reynolds Gallery, will take the stage with Dr. Eric Brenner, associate professor of biology at Pace University, for a dialogue about their shared fascination with plant evolution and the infinite complexities of the plant world. The event, “The Art and Science of Plant Dynamics,” will take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Curator Ashley Kistler will moderate the conversation. There will be a cash bar before and after the event featuring a floral cocktail designed for the occasion. Admission is free and open to the public. The Henrico County Planning Department will hold a workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at John Rolfe Middle School, 6901 Messer Rd., for residents and other members of the public to provide additional input for a study of the Route 5 corridor and Marion Hill areas. The meeting will include an overview of community input received so far and an explanation of how it is reflected in the study’s draft goals and objectives. The presentation will be followed by an exercise that will allow attendees to express their opinions about the draft goals and objectives. Participants will use electronic keypads to register their opinions, and results for the group will be displayed on-screen in real time. Participants also will be asked to provide feedback about a restroom facility that is planned at the Four Mile Creek Park trailhead.
