UR to broadcast Bolshoi Ballet’s production of “The Sleeping Beauty”

The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will broadcast Bolshoi Ballet’s production of “The Sleeping Beauty” at 12:55 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. Pathe Live's Bolshoi Ballet program brings the best Bolshoi Ballet productions direct from Moscow, Russia to cinemas and performing arts centers across the U.S. Each production features behind-the-scenes programming, including interviews with the cast and creative teams, either prior to the start of the production, or during intermission. Pianist Jeremy Denk to perform at UR, workshop planned Jan. 22

Pianist Jeremy Denk will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music at the University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts. He is the winner of a 2013 MacArthur “Genius Grant,” the 2014 Avery Fisher Prize, and Musical America’s 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year award. Tickets are $20 to $40. On Jan. 22, gain insight into the process behind a musician’s training when students from the UR Department of Music piano studio refine their repertoire and technique with guidance from pianist Jeremy Denk. Richmond Raceway Complex will host Discover the Dinosaurs Unleashed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 21-22. Experience up-close encounters with a lifelike Stegosaurus, Velociraptor and the king T-Rex in this walk-thru exhibit. Kids become junior paleontologists as they dig for fossils in the Valley of the Bones. Visit the Kid’s Adventure Zone filled with themed bouncy houses, crafts and more. Tickets are $12 to $45. The Richmond Funny Bone, located at Short Pump Town Center, will present comedian Joe Torry at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Jan. 6, 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Jan. 7 and at 7 p.m. Jan. 8. Torry received his big break in 1992 when he was given the job of hosting Def Comedy Jam after Martin Lawrence left the show. He has been in many movies and commercials. Torry founded the Giving Back the Love Foundation in 1996 through which he gives back to his hometown of St. Louis through youth and community programs. Tickets are $15 to $17.
