Cook & Book Club to meet at Varina Library

The Cook & Book Club at Varina Library will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The club will explore food and food preparation, as well as the many books with food topics. The first guest will be Tom Ray, who recently retired from the Library of Virginia. He developed the Virginia cookbook collection there and has his own Virginia cookbook collection. 14th annual Richmond Kids Expo planned at Richmond Raceway Complex

The 14th annual Richmond Kids Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway Complex. The expo is designed to provide parents with an engaging trade show atmosphere while kids enjoy a day of fun and entertainment. There will be contests and prizes, hands-on activities, giveaways, summer camp and school information, arts and crafts, vendors, vacation planning, food and more. Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) will present a screening of the documentary “Resilience: The Biology of Stress, and the Science of Hope” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital. “Resilience” is the companion film to “Paper Tigers,” which follows a year in the life of an alternative high school in Washington State who radically changed its approach to student discipline, with radically positive results.
