Weinstein JCC to present sixth annual ReelAbilities Film Festival March 16, 18-19

The Weinstein Jewish Community Center will present the sixth annual ReelAbilities Film Festival March 16 and 18-19. The festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different abilities. The schedule includes: March 16 at 7:30 p.m. – “Shameless: The Art of Disability;” March 18 at 7:30 p.m. – “Margarita with a Straw;” March 19 at 12 p.m. – “Mimi and Dona;” and March 19 at 2 p.m. – “Gabriel.” Talk Backs follow each film. Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society to meet at Lewis Ginter

The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will meet at 7 p.m. at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Berniece Thieblot will share the story of how her 600-acre property in Nelson County became a designated Virginia Treasure in 2016. Virginia Treasures are identified by the state to preserve, protect and highlight Virginia’s most important ecological, cultural, scenic and recreational assets as well as its special lands. Henrico County Historical Society to meet at Henrico Theatre

The Henrico County Historical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. The speaker will be Dr. Bruce M. Venter, who will discuss his new book, “Kill Jeff Davis – The Union Raid on Richmond, 1864.” Venter’s major interest is Civil War cavalry with an emphasis on the career of Union general Judson Kilpatrick. He frequently lectures on the cavalry and has led bus tours on the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren raid, the focus of his book, “Kill Jeff Davis – The Union Raid on Richmond, 1864.”
