Henrico Theatre Company to present “Driving Miss Daisy” Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 at CACGA

The Henrico Theatre Company will present “Driving Miss Daisy” Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Taking place in the deep South in 1948 just prior to the civil rights movement, this is a warmhearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady and a proud, soft-spoken black man. All performances are at 8 p.m. except for Sunday matinees which start at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors (55+) and students. Artist Nancy Blum, Professor Eric Brenner to present “The Art and Science of Plant Dynamics”

Artist Nancy Blum, whose exhibition of new drawings opens Nov. 3 at the Reynolds Gallery, will take the stage with Dr. Eric Brenner, associate professor of biology at Pace University, for a dialogue about their shared fascination with plant evolution and the infinite complexities of the plant world. The event, “The Art and Science of Plant Dynamics,” will take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Curator Ashley Kistler will moderate the conversation. There will be a cash bar before and after the event featuring a floral cocktail designed for the occasion. Admission is free and open to the public. The Henrico County Health Department will offer free flu vaccinations to the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Adult Education Center, 7850 Carousel Ln., and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the East Henrico Health Clinic, 1400 N. Laburnum Ave. The clinics will provide standard-dose flu vaccine to individuals age three and older on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. In addition to the flu vaccine, the Henrico County Health Department will offer free home-screening kits for colorectal cancer to qualifying individuals.
