VA Rep to present “Buffalo Soldier” Feb. 3-26 at The Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn

Virginia Repertory Theatre will present “Buffalo Soldier” Feb. 3-26 at The Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn. This fascinating story of Richmond native Jones Morgan, one of the original Buffalo Soldiers, was selected by the Pentagon as a morale booster after 9/11, becoming the first professional play in history to be performed within the Pentagon’s walls. Lakeside Moose Lodge 1714 to host Chili Cook-off

The Lakeside Moose Lodge 1714, located at 1207 Hilliard Rd., will host a Chili Cook-off at 9 a.m. Entrance fee is $20 through Feb. 15, $30 through March 3 and $40 on the day of the event. Judges tickets are $10 – there will be both popular judging and double blind judging. Both will be awarded cash prizes and are based on participation and attendance. Shepherd’s Center concludes its Open University series “Lunch and Life”

The Shepherd’s Center concludes its Open University four-week winter lecture series “Lunch and Life” at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd. Charles Bryan, historian and former CEO at Virginia Historical Society, will present "Our Restless Species: How We Came to Occupy the Globe.” A brown bag lunch precedes at noon with dessert and beverages provided. The 2017 VaHomeschoolers’ Conference and Resource Fair will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 24 and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 25 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Keynote speaker will be Julie Bogart, creator of the innovative writing program Bravewriter and the popular, fast-growing practice called Poetry Teatime. There will also be an array of engaging exhibitors, a used resource sale, Talent Night, an ice-cream social, workshops and family activities – including the popular “Visit, Earn & Learn” activity at 1 p.m. on March 24, which earns participating children 12 and under a free book.
