CAT Theatre to present “Wishing Well” Jan. 20 through Feb. 4

CAT Theatre will present “Wishing Well” Jan. 20 through Feb. 4 at 319 N. Wilkinson Rd. in Henrico. CAT’s 2017 entry into the Acts of Faith Festival, “Wishing Well” is a contemporary comedy about mother-daughter revelations during one stormy weekend in North Carolina that puts the “fun” in dysfunctional. Henrico Co. to host Central Virginia Disaster Survivor Day training

The Central Virginia Disaster Survivor Day training in Henrico County will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Henrico Public Safety Training Center at 7701 E. Parham Rd. This free course is designed to introduce you to general emergency preparedness and safety information, and to provide each registered address a free backpack to take home and develop your own disaster survival kit. Benefit concert for transplant survivor Chad Southward at Sandston Baptist Church

A benefit concert will be held for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association in honor of Chad Southward, a Henrico-area man who received his third double lung transplant at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina on Thanksgiving Day 2016, at 7 p.m. at Sandston Baptist Church. The Christian music concert, “Breathe Deeply – Songs for the Southwards,” will feature Amy Ladd and Friends, Clear Call and Who Shot Goliath? The MC will be Troy Westerman. Funds are being raised to assist with transplant related expenses. The concert is free but donations will be accepted. For details, call Wanda Phillips at (804) 564-6237.

 

Community Author Showcase continues at Twin Hickory Library

The Henrico County Community Author Showcase, a program that connects writers and readers in the community, will begin at 7 p.m. and continue on the second Monday and every Thursday of the month at various libraries. Angela Wood and Natasha Tabon will share their children’s book “The Misadventures of Tood and Taboon: Lost in the Forest” at Twin Hickory Library. The Bad to the Bone Blues Bash returns to the Henrico Theatre from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with three new bands. Headlining the event is the acclaimed Forrest McDonald Band, winners of the 2015 and 2016 River City Blues Society International Blues Challenge. McDonald has released a dozen albums and has recorded with music giants such as Bob Seger, Bobby Womack, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Perry and Ray Charles. Also performing are Andrew Alli and the Mainline and the Urban-Hill Band, lead by blues guitarists and vocalists Paul Urban and Lathan “Pudgee” Hill.
