Lewis Ginter to present Flowers After 5 on Thursday evenings through September

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will present Flowers After 5 on Thursday evenings through September. Stroll through the gardens and enjoy live music from The FREE Rangers, as well as family activities, wine and beer, dining and shopping. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. The Garden partners with the Richmond SPCA on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month for Fidos After 5 where leashed pets are allowed. Admission is $8 to $13 or free for members. VNPS-Pocahontas Chapter to hold monthly meeting at Lewis Ginter

The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will meet at 7 p.m. at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Randolph-Macon College Professor Dr. Nicholas Ruppel will discuss his VNPS-funded research – the project of assessing the diversity of insect pollinators on native plants in Ashland. Register by Sept. 4 for Henricus Historical Park’s Home School Day

Home School Day at Henricus Historical Park will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students ages 4-14 will work with colonists as they set up their militia, economy and way of life in the re-created colonial citie. Students will also learn how the native inhabitants, the Powhatan Indians, organized their successful and widespread society. Students will be divided by age level to work on age-appropriate activities and curriculum. Registration is required by Sept. 4 by calling 318-8797.

Lakeside Moose #1714 will present “Get Down in the Bottom” with The Embers, featuring Craig Woolard, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1207 Hilliard Rd. DJ Tim Wade will open the event from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. Proceeds benefit girls of the Virginia House at Moose-heart, a school founded in 1913 by the Moose fraternal organization that is home to children of all ages. Moose-heart, located just west of Chicago, is a place where children can stay in a safe, secure and nurturing environment while receiving a top-notch education. Open to the public.
