Bethlehem Baptist Church to celebrate 175th anniversary
June 02 2013 - The theme is 'Celebrating the Past and Anticipating the Future', 11 a.m., Free
Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4210 Penick Rd., will celebrate its 175th anniversary at 11 a.m. The theme is “Celebrating the Past and Anticipating the Future.” In 1828, nine people organized a Sunday school in a log schoolhouse, five miles from the Richmond city limits. Students from the Virginia Baptist Seminary, now the University of Richmond, helped it become the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The church received its charter on May 31, 1838. It reportedly served as a first aid station during the Civil War, burned about 1870 and was rebuilt. A brick Gothic style church opened on July 25, 1909. On November 3, 1920, this structure burned. Members dedicated the present building, located in Henrico County, on November 6, 1921. For details, call 262-8339.

Whale of a treat

I was overjoyed to head back for another meal at Ironfish by Pescados, considered the Best New Restaurant in 2011 by both the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Magazine. I agree whole-heartedly with their ratings. Since I first visited the restaurant for my birthday in January, I was waiting for the perfect special occasion to return. I couldn’t wait another year, obviously.
Run by the same restaurateurs as Pescados Latin Caribbean Seafood in Midlothian and Eat in Oregon Hill, Ironfish offers the same unique dishes and top-level customer service. > Read more.
