Are you old enough to remember when gas was 31 cents a gallon and you could buy a new car for $2,650? How about paying rent of $118 a month? You could have been cruisin’ down Mountain Road in a new Dodge Charger, or riding a new skateboard to Mr. Allen’s Market. That was the year – 1965 – that the world was introduced to contact lenses, Spirograph, Bounty, Get Smart, Lost in Space, Gatorade, Apple Jacks, and Spaghetti O’s.

The Ruritans are the folks that have cleaned up Mountain Road; raised money for scholarships at local high schools through the Healy Gala; supported local schools and charities such as Lamb’s Basket, St. Joseph Villa, the Henrico Christmas Mother and the juvenile jail by cooking their locally famous barbeque; and put on Glen Allen Day for the last 19
years. > Read more.
