The 2014 Summer Movie Express continues at Regal Virginia Center Stadium 20 and Regal Short Pump Stadium 14. The films this week are “Adventures of TinTin” on July 15 and “Rise of the Guardians” on July 16. The program runs for nine weeks with select G and PG titles playing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. throughout the summer. Summer Nature Series at Three Lakes Nature Center continues

The Summer Nature Series at Three Lakes Nature Center, 400 Sausiluta Dr., continues with “The Nature of Turtles” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nature center staff will open the classroom doors to visitors and share a variety of items/treasures from the nature collections. Canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts soon will have a new access point to the Chickahominy River. VDOT, the James River Association and Henrico County Parks and Recreation are teaming up to establish a new site in Eastern Henrico.
The James River Association negotiated the deal with VDOT to procure official access to the area located just east of I-295 on North Airport Road in Sandston. The site includes a park-and-ride commuter lot bordering the Chickahominy River and has been an unofficial launch site used by paddlers for years. > Read more.
The Western Henrico Rotary Club installed its new officers and directors for the 2014-15 year at its June 30 meeting.
The new officers are: Stuart P. Myers – president; Lee Muckey – president-elect; John Strotmeyer – vice president; Johnny Alga – secretary; Doug Westmoreland – treasurer; and Bill Sossong – sergeant-at-arms. The directors are: Adam Cherry (immediate past president), Michael Binns, Jim Brooks, Ryan Davis, Bob Glasser, Clint Ray, Ken Strickler, Darren Waggoner and Doug Westmoreland. Rotary International District 7600 Area Governor Jeff Hawkins visited the club at its meeting at the Westwood Club to install the new slate of leaders. > Read more.
