The 7th annual Jack and Abby 5K Race for the NICU will start at 8 a.m. in Innsbrook’s North Shore Commons, 4951 Lake Brook Dr. The 5K run/walk and half-mile kids’ fun run support families with babies in the Bon Secours Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The event honors Jack and Abby Smith, who would have celebrated their seventh birthdays in June. The grand opening of the new Short Pump Park, located at 3329 Pump Rd., will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The new park has been 10 years in the making and will feature a water play-area with spray fountains and an off-leash dog park. Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Red, White, and Lights” at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park. The free event begins at 4:30 p.m. and will feature the Richmond Symphony, a laser-light show, patriotic performances, and family activities. A Henrico County 4th of July Celebration has taken place annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time, expanded hours, and be highlighted by new entertainment. The Richmond Symphony and laser-light show will mark the finale of the event. The symphony will perform under “The Big Tent,” a state-of-the-art mobile stage that allows the orchestra to take its music out into the local communities. Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Red, White, and Lights” at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park July 4.

Henrico County has hosted a Fourth of July celebration annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time and expanded hours and be highlighted by new entertainment.

Tuckahoe YMCA to host Refugee Community Resource Fair


The Tuckahoe Family YMCA and ReEstablish Richmond will host the third-annual Refugee Community Resource Fair Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the YMCA, 9211 Patterson Avenue in Henrico. The event is designed to provide refugees in the region information about jobs, local businesses, housing, health care, education and more.

Muse Paintbar opens at Willow Lawn


Muse Paintbar, which combines painting instruction with a wine bar and restaurant, opened June 23 at The Shops at Willow Lawn in Henrico. The location is the company's 17th nationwide.

Guests can learn from local artists while sampling a wide selection of wine, beer and tapas. The facility held a soft-launch last weekend, allowing patrons a sneak peek at the studio’s artistic offerings.
