The 2015 Electric Football World Championships and Convention will be held July 31 to Aug. 2 at the Four Points Sheraton at 4700 S. Laburnum Ave. Sponsored by Tudor Games and The Miniature Football Coaches Association with tournaments for advanced, beginner and youth players. The three-day convention features players and enthusiasts from across the country gathering for competitive play. There will be information on local, national and international electric football leagues. Hours are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 31, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 1, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 2. Legacy Chess Academy to present Team Championships at Brookdale Imperial Plaza

August 01 2015 - Guaranteed first and second place of each section will receive trophies, 9 a.m.,
Legacy Chess Academy will present Team Championships from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Brookdale Imperial Plaza, 1717 Bellevue Ave. There will be a Scholastic Team Tournament (2 Sections, K5 and K12), an Adult Team Tournament and an Individual Open Tournament. Teams are groups of four. Winner of each section will receive cash and trophy prize that will be determined by number of participants. 10th annual Filipino Festival coming in August


The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.

Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.

CMoR reopens at new Short Pump site

The Children’s Museum of Richmond last week opened its new Short Pump location at Short Pump Town Center, to the delight of children who attended a sneak preview of the location July 10. The new facility, located under the forthcoming LL Bean store (formerly the food court) is 8,500 square feet in size – much larger than CMoR’s former Short Pump location at West Broad Village, which opened in 2010. The new space includes The CarMax Foundation Service Station, the Silver Diner, a grocery store, a performance stage and an art studio, as well as a giant Light Bright Wall. > Read more.
