The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Rd., will hold Tribute Night auditions from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The following bands will be performing: Johnny Lee Long Band (tribute to jazz/funk stylings), Suggesting Rhythm (tribute to Grateful Dead) and The Hullabaloos (tribute to 60s pop-British rock to Woodstock). Tribute Nights at The Tin Pan highlight either a specific musician/band or era of music. The winning band will play at an upcoming Tribute Night. Tickets are $5. Richmond National Battlefield Park will present a special event focusing on Malvern Hill during the American Revolution, War of 1812 and Civil War on Sept. 5-6. The program will feature authors and historians speaking on the military events that occurred in the area during those three conflicts, living history volunteers portraying soldiers of each war and firing demonstrations showing the weapons and equipment of each period. For the third consecutive year, the Canterbury Recreation Association in Short Pump donated the most meals to the fourth-annual "Dunk Hunger" campaign, which raises money and food donations for FeedMore's Central Virginia Food Bank. Swim teams and community pools throughout the region combined to raise the equivalent of 77,404 meals this year, with the Canterbury group earning the Gold Medal, with 17,454 meals contributed.
CRA will earn a winners’ bash Aug. 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. at its pool on Pump Road.
“Our pool has adopted Dunk Hunger into its culture with fun ways to raise food and funds," said Canterbury’s Dunk Hunger chairman Jack McSorley, a Freeman High School junior. > Read more.
