Glen Allen Ruritan to host 6th annual Healy Gala at CACGA

The Glen Allen Ruritan Community Foundation will host the Sixth Annual Healy Gala from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The Healy Gala is held to raise funds to endow the Mike Healy Scholarship. Healy was a local businessman and community leader who died suddenly in 2011. The scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior at Glen Allen HS. The theme for this year’s Gala is “Spring Towards Higher Education” with both a live and silent auction with more than 100 items. There will be light hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine, a raffle, and music by Summerhaus. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door; admission includes one drink ticket. Henricus to re-create the 1781 Battle of Osborne’s Landing Apr. 22-23

Revolutionary War re-enactors in their American and British encampments will re-create the 1781 Battle of Osborne’s Landing at Henricus Historical Park Apr. 22-23. This battle is when Major General William Phillips ordered British forces, which included Benedict Arnold, to attack the supplies of the Virginia State Navy and Virginia Militia. During this attack, most of the Virginia State Navy fleet was destroyed. Visitors will experience militia drills and artillery demos. Brain Injury Association of Virginia to host RVA Field Day at Richmond Volleyball Club

The Brain Injury Association of Virginia will host RVA Field Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richmond Volleyball Club. RVA Field Day consists of competitive, traditional Field Day games, and teams of four will fundraise to participate in a series of games requiring dexterity, memory, and skill. For spectators, there will be music, food and beverages, arts and crafts and more. Bicycle helmets will be given away to the first 50 children who stop by the sponsors table. YMCA event will focus on teen mental health


The YMCA, in partnership with the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation and PartnerMD, will host a free event May 2 to help parents learn how to deal with teen mental health issues. “When the Band-Aid Doesn’t Fix It: A Mom’s Perspective on Raising a Child Who Struggles” will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Shady Grove Family YMCA,11255 Nuckols Road. Villa’s Flagler Housing wins national NAEH award


St. Joseph's Villa’s Flagler Housing & Homeless Services was one of three entities to earn the National Alliance to End Homelessness' Champion of Change Award. The awards were presented Nov. 17 during a ceremony at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

NAEH annually recognizes proven programs and significant achievements in ending child and family homelessness.

Flagler completed its transition from an on-campus shelter to the community-based model of rapid rehousing in 2013, and it was one of the nation's first rapid re-housing service providers to be certified by NAEH. > Read more.
