Eclipse-viewing parties planned at Glen Allen, Libbie Mill, North Park, Twin Hickory, Varina libraries

Thanks to the NASA @ My Library program, the Glen Allen, Libbie Mill, North Park, Twin Hickory and Varina libraries will host free eclipse-viewing parties and distribute free eclipse-viewing classes while supplies last from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A solar eclipse will occur that day. Henrico residents of all ages can learn about the science behind eclipses and pick up a pair of glasses to safely view the eclipse. Limited quantities of these safety glasses will be available to the public at all Henrico County Public Library locations, and distribution may be restricted to one pair of glasses per family if demand is overwhelming. Lewis Ginter to host Sun Celebration, Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will host a Sun Celebration and Solar Eclipse Viewing Party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Glasses to view the eclipse safely will be given to the first 500 guests starting at 1 p.m. Peak viewing time is at 2:45 p.m. Other activities include botanical sun prints, testing out a pinhole viewer for observing the eclipse, painting with water and watching it evaporate, sun salutations with yoga instructor Michelle Israel and more. The Henricus Historical Park’s Discovery Day Program Series concludes with “Children of the Colony: Lean about the lives of the youngest English colonists.” The program, designed for children ages 3-10, is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities will include a story, short tour and activities in the historic site, and a make-and-take craft.
