This hilarious show is based on actual events from the spring of 1939 when the movie public is anxiously awaiting the release of Gone with the Wind. Filming has already begun, but David O. Selznick realizes the script is a dud. He calls on screenwriter Ben Hecht to save the day but, unfortunately, Hecht never read the book. With only a week before filming resumes, Selznick locks himself in his office with Hecht and Director Victor Fleming to re-write the script. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will present Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks May 27 to Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Created with half-a-million LEGO bricks, the award-winning exhibit by New York artist Sean Kenney will feature 27 sculptures in 14 displays throughout the Garden including a 60-pound bumblebee, dragonfly with a 3.5-foot wingspan and a seven-foot tall red rose. Lavender Fields Herb Farm, 11300 Winfrey Rd. in Glen Allen, will offer daily tours (closed Sundays) June 1-30 of the lavender field from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The field is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance fee to the lavender field is $5 per person and includes 20 fresh cut lavender stems and a sample of lavender ice cream. Family entrance is $20 and includes 80 stems and four sample ice creams. Learn about the lavender plant itself, as well as about the oil and flowers it produces and how the farm uses them. Henrico to hold community celebration in honor of new Varina Library opening

Henrico County will hold a community celebration in honor of the opening of the new Varina Area Library from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The new library is located at 1875 New Market Road and will be open for business beginning Thursday, June 2 at 9 a.m. Features include a digital media lab with 3D printers, drive-up service window and book return, more public use computers and devices, a dedicated children’s area, separate teen area, study rooms, demonstration kitchen and more. The Pemberton at University Park to host ‘Wall of Honor’ ceremony June 9


The Pemberton at University Park senior community will host a dedication ceremony for its Veterans Wall of Honor June 9 at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will honor residents who have served in the military.

Deep Run High School Cadets will provide a color guard for the event.

Community members have taken photos of residents in uniform, as well as residents with pictures of their military units from their days of service that will be on display the day of the event. > Read more.

Sandston Founders Club honors Sydnor


The Founders Club of Sandston presented lifetime membership to Charles W. Sydnor at its 12th annual meeting last month.

Sydnor, who grew up in Sandston and later served as president of Emory and Henry College for eight years, was honored by Founder Club President Alice Taylor Baldwin at the April 23 event at Sandston Memorial Recreation Center. > Read more.
