“Holiday on Parade: An Eastern Henrico Celebration” will take place at various locations in the east end with activities beginning at noon at Hidden Creek Recreation Center, 2417 Brockway Ln. Enjoy crafts and bake Christmas cookies. Make a vintage holiday decoration to take home from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clarke-Palmore House, 904 McCoul St. The celebration continues with decorations and children’s craft activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Armour House & Gardens, 4001 Clarendon Rd., and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Dorey Recreation Center, 2999 Darbytown Rd. The event concludes with the 21st annual James River Parade of Lights at 5 p.m. at Osborne Park, 9530 Osborne Tnpk. Gather around the bonfire and enjoy holiday music and activities. In Varina, one of the most anticipated events of the season is approaching. The 19th Annual Big Toy Parade will return on Dec 14, offering a “homey,” small-town feel that helps elicit holiday spirit among participants and spectators alike.
The parade, which begins at 3 p.m., is sponsored by the Battlefield Ruritans and Henrico County Parks and Recreation and is held in conjunction with the James River Boat Parade. It is led by a grand marshal along Old Osborne Turnpike and ends at the Osborne Boat Landing, where hundreds of community members gather to await nightfall and the arrival of lighted boats, concluding a festive holiday celebration. > Read more.
