Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will present Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks May 27 to Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Created with half-a-million LEGO bricks, the award-winning exhibit by New York artist Sean Kenney will feature 27 sculptures in 14 displays throughout the Garden including a 60-pound bumblebee, dragonfly with a 3.5-foot wingspan and a seven-foot tall red rose. Lavender Fields Herb Farm to offer daily tours of lavender field June 1-30

Lavender Fields Herb Farm, 11300 Winfrey Rd. in Glen Allen, will offer daily tours (closed Sundays) June 1-30 of the lavender field from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The field is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance fee to the lavender field is $5 per person and includes 20 fresh cut lavender stems and a sample of lavender ice cream. Family entrance is $20 and includes 80 stems and four sample ice creams. Learn about the lavender plant itself, as well as about the oil and flowers it produces and how the farm uses them. All-Breed Obedience and Rally Trials planned June 25-26 at Richmond Raceway Complex

The Richmond Dog Obedience Club will hold their All-Breed Obedience and Rally Trials June 25-26 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Judging starts at 9 a.m. each day and ends in the afternoon. Only dogs entered in the competition are allowed at the event which is licensed by the American Kennel Club. The purpose of obedience trials is to demonstrate the dog’s ability to follow specified routines as directed by the handler. All contestants in each class level – novice, open and utility – are required to perform the same exercises so that the relative quality of the various performances may be scored. Exercises include heeling, scent discrimination, retrieving, jumping and more. The event is free and open to the public; parking is $5. Strollers are not allowed in the building. The grand opening of the new Short Pump Park, located at 3329 Pump Rd., will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The new park has been 10 years in the making and will feature a water play-area with spray fountains and an off-leash dog park. County plans Fourth of July event


Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Red, White, and Lights” at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park July 4.

Henrico County has hosted a Fourth of July celebration annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time and expanded hours and be highlighted by new entertainment.

The free event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will feature the Richmond Symphony, a laser-light show, patriotic performances, and family activities. > Read more.

Tuckahoe YMCA to host Refugee Community Resource Fair


The Tuckahoe Family YMCA and ReEstablish Richmond will host the third-annual Refugee Community Resource Fair Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the YMCA, 9211 Patterson Avenue in Henrico. The event is designed to provide refugees in the region information about jobs, local businesses, housing, health care, education and more.

As part of its strategic plan, the YMCA of Greater Richmond works to identify, address and eliminate economic, geographic and cultural barriers. > Read more.

Muse Paintbar opens at Willow Lawn


Muse Paintbar, which combines painting instruction with a wine bar and restaurant, opened June 23 at The Shops at Willow Lawn in Henrico. The location is the company's 17th nationwide.

Guests can learn from local artists while sampling a wide selection of wine, beer and tapas. The facility held a soft-launch last weekend, allowing patrons a sneak peek at the studio’s artistic offerings.
