Henricus Historical Park to present James River Camp Aug. 11-13
August 11 2015 - Ages 9-12, 9 a.m., $120
Henricus Historical Park will present James River Camp for ages 9-12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11-13. Children will have the opportunity to paddle a kayak and identify how the plants and animals of the river were hunted, gathered and used throughout history. Campers will also learn about the changes made at Dutch Gap during the Civil War and see how it is used today. Cost is $120. To register, call 318-8797.

The Mirror Mode Mentoring Program will host Blossom 2015 Girl Talk & Fun from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Trinity Family Life Center, 3601 Dill Rd. Blossom 2015 teaches girls ages 10-17 about hygiene, self-esteem, etiquette and ladylike behavior. Girls will also learn facts vs. myths about the menstrual cycle, how to calculate to the next cycle and the importance of being prepared. There will also be a Q&A session with Dr. Jennifer Hollings, MD-OB/GYN. Event is free. Girls will receive free hygiene items. Registration is required. The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.
Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.
