Professor and science writer Margaret Wertheim to visit The Steward School Feb. 15-16

Professor and science writer Margaret Wertheim will present “The Intersection of Nature, Technology, Arts and Math: Contributing to the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef” at The Steward School, 11600 Gayton Rd. Wertheim is director and co-founder of the Institute for Figuring.

Wertheim will engage the RVA community in building The Steward School Satellite Reef – using the art of crochet, science knowledge and math - at a community workshop on Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Fiber Arts and Science Fair will be held on Feb. 16 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Exhibitors include VCUArts, VMFA, U of R knitting club, James River Association and VCU Rice Center. Immediately following the Fair, Wertheim will engage critical thinking at a lecture from 6 p.m. till around 7:30 p.m.

Architect of World Trade Center Memorial to speak in Henrico


Michael Arad, the architect of the World Trade Center Memorial, will be the keynote speaker for The 2016 Adolf-Adams JCC Forum on Sat., Jan. 30, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., at the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center in Henrico.

Arad’s “Reflecting Absence” architectural design was selected from more than 5,000 competitive entries as the template for the Memorial’s construction in New York City. During the forum, Arad will discuss the significance and symbolism of the design, as well as his inspiration. The event, which is a highlight of the Weinstein JCC’s Patron of the Arts series, is open to the public > Read more.

Western Henrico Rotary Club makes Thanksgiving donation to Coal Pit families


Members of the Western Henrico Rotary Club (WHRC) celebrated Thanksgiving a few days early on Nov. 23, making their annual donation of turkey dinners to 28 Coal Pit Learning Center families.
