VA Dept. of Conservation & Recreation to offer two-part nutrient management training course

December 07 2016 - Sessions held Dec. 7-8 and Dec. 13-15 at Hilton Garden Inn Richmond Airport, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $150 per session
The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will offer a two-part nutrient management training course at the Hilton Garden Inn Richmond Airport. The first session, Dec. 7-8, is a lecture series by Virginia Tech professors on soil science, soil fertility and crop production. The second session, Dec. 13-15, will cover nutrient management plan writing using a case-study farm. Both sessions run from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $150 per session. CACGA to host Happy Hour Art Class

December 10 2016 - Enjoy wine tastings and create a seasonal masterpiece to take home, 1 p.m., $45
The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will host a Happy Hour Art Class from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. First, enjoy wine tastings from Jacey Vineyards from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and then grab a brush and follow the leader to create a seasonal masterpiece to take home. Classes are held the second Saturday of each month and feature a different project led by artist Nancy Jacey. Villa’s Flagler Housing wins national NAEH award


St. Joseph's Villa’s Flagler Housing & Homeless Services was one of three entities to earn the National Alliance to End Homelessness' Champion of Change Award. The awards were presented Nov. 17 during a ceremony at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

NAEH annually recognizes proven programs and significant achievements in ending child and family homelessness.

Flagler completed its transition from an on-campus shelter to the community-based model of rapid rehousing in 2013, and it was one of the nation's first rapid re-housing service providers to be certified by NAEH. > Read more.

RIR’s Christmas tree lighting rescheduled for Dec. 12


Richmond International Raceway's 13th annual Community Christmas tree lighting has been rescheduled from Dec. 6 to Monday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m., due to inclement weather expected on the original date.

Entertainment Dec. 12 will be provided by the Laburnum Elementary School choir and the Henrico High School Mighty Marching Warriors band. Tree decorations crafted by students from Laburnum Elementary School and L. Douglas Wilder Middle School will be on display. Hot chocolate and cookies will be supplied by the Henrico High School football boosters. > Read more.
