Are you old enough to remember when gas was 31 cents a gallon and you could buy a new car for $2,650? How about paying rent of $118 a month? You could have been cruisin’ down Mountain Road in a new Dodge Charger, or riding a new skateboard to Mr. Allen’s Market. It was also in 1965 that the Glen Allen Ruritan Club was founded – and today the Ruritans are still going strong. The Ruritans are the folks that have cleaned up Mountain Road; raised money for scholarships at local high schools through the Healy Gala; supported local schools and charities such as Lamb’s Basket, St. Joseph Villa, the Henrico Christmas Mother and the juvenile jail by cooking their locally famous barbeque; and put on Glen Allen Day for the last 19
