Henrico County Historical Society to sponsor “Homefront Tribute” in Sandston

Henrico County Historical Society is sponsoring a "Homefront Tribute" in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the United States’ entry into WWII. The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sandston Memorial Recreation Center, a former USO Center from the 1940s. It is located at 11 J.B. Finley Road in Sandston. Enjoy participating in a dance contest, refreshments, antique cars and more. Bring photos, documents and artifacts for photographing and scanning. 1940s attire is optional but encouraged. Home School Day at Henricus Historical Park will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students ages 4-14 will work with colonists as they set up their militia, economy and way of life in the re-created colonial citie. Students will also learn how the native inhabitants, the Powhatan Indians, organized their successful and widespread society. Henricus Historical Park to hold third annual Naturalization Ceremony

Henricus Historical Park will host its third annual Naturalization Ceremony from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nearly 60 people will become new United States citizens. Henricus welcomes any citizens who were previously naturalized at the park, and their families, to join in the celebration with all-day free admission to the historic site. The ceremony also is free and open to the public.

Henricus to present annual celebration of the 1611 founding of the Citie of Henricus

Henricus Historical Park will present its annual celebration of the 1611 founding of the Citie of Henricus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23-24. The 17th-century ship replica, Godspeed from Jamestown Settlement, will be at the Henricus dock for free tours. Watch 400 years of history come to life with living history re-enactments, military drills and musket firings, craftsmen and blacksmiths, 17th-century medicinal demonstrations, Virginia Indian activities, historical children’s games and crafts, storytelling, and more. Join the History Investigators at Dorey Recreation Center

Join the History Investigators as they discover the stories, secrets and treasures of local historic sites.
