St. Joseph Villa’s to host 19th annual Hoedown to Stomp Homelessness Bluegrass Ball

St. Joseph Villa’s 19th annual Hoedown to Stomp Homelessness Bluegrass Ball will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. ICM Bluegrass Artist of the Year, The Roys, will provide entertainment and there will be barbecue and drinks. Proceeds benefit the Flagler Home, which provides shelter and support leading to permanent housing for homeless mothers and their children. Tickets are $75. Sierra Club Falls of the James Group to host annual ‘BIG Yard Sale’ at UR

May 18 2013 - Departing students are selling household items, electronics, clothing and more, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.,
The Sierra Club Falls of the James Group will host the annual “BIG Yard Sale” from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Millhiser Gym at the University of Richmond. The sale brings together Sierra Club volunteers with UR’s departing students to divert their household items from the landfill. Items for sale include furniture, electronics, kitchen equipment, linens and towels, rugs, TVs, clothing and more. Proceeds benefit Sierra Club Falls of the James Group, the UR Green student group and Goodwill. For details, call Jane Hotchkiss at 355-4836.

Mirror Mode Movement 3M Walk, Women’s Health Fair at Eastern Henrico Rec Center

May 18 2013 - Motivate, Move & Make it happen!, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., $25
The Mirror Mode Movement 3M Walk and Women’s Health Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave. The 3M is hoping to unite girls and women and help put a stop to bullying, jealousy, hate, cliques and crime, while also providing women’s health awareness. Women’s groups, mentoring organizations, health clubs, beauty shops, corporate offices, families and sororities are invited. There will be a women's forum with Dr. Johnson-Threat and Kimberly Pinna, RN from Bon Secours Hospitals. Walgreens will be conducting free health screenings. Spirited Art Richmond held a painting class May 5 for Hanover Habitat for Humanity families to paint their own artwork as a final touch for their new homes. DRMD hopes to hit million-dollar mark

Deep Run High School’s 2013 Marathon Dance, a student-run function that aims to raise money for organizations around the community, will be held March 15-16 in the school’s gymnasium. In its seven-year history, the dance has raised more than $863,000, and this year the students’ goal is to break the $1 million mark. The event has progressed from a small dance in the high school gym to an event that brings the entire community together. > Read more.

The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way.
