The Jack & Abby 5K Run/Walk and Stroller Walk, a fundraiser event to support families with infants in the Bon Secours NICU, will begin at 8 a.m. with a butterfly release in Innsbrook. ‘Seersucker Suit, Sundress and Sounds Affair’ to take place in Innsbrook

The Seersucker Suit, Sundress and Sounds Affair, a 90th anniversary celebration of the Phi Phi Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., will take place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in North Shore Commons in Innsbrook. There will be food, a cash bar, DJ, live music, vendors and more. Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. The event benefits the Brothers of OPP Inc.’s Scholarship and Uplift Foundation. Lite 98’s Kat Simons to host cat, kitten adoption at Petco

June 22 2013 - Hosted by Henrico Humane Society, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.,
Kat Simons, Lite 98 personality, will hold a live remote broadcast from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Petco, 11331 W. Broad St., to help homeless cats and kittens find new homes. Henrico Humane Society has partnered with Petco, who is sponsoring the event, to hold this adoption during the peak of kitten season. Short Pump Ruritan Club donates $50k to Virginia War Memorial

The Short Pump Ruritan/Civic Association Foundation, Inc. recently presented a check for $50,000 to the Virginia War Memorial Educational Foundation. A community ‘Kaffeehaus’ in Henrico’s Far West End

Born and raised in good old Europe, I am quite familiar with the traditional Austro-Hungarian tradition of the Kaffeehaus, an institution that represents a lifestyle of relaxing and thinking in a familiar environment with coffee, pastry, news, good service, marble tables, subdued sounds like the click-clack of the coffee machine, mugs and plates, conversations among patrons and with staff and a bit of low volume Johann Strauss music.

And so it was a thrill to find a modern version of a Kaffeehaus right here in Henrico County: The Daily Grind, near Short Pump Town Center. > Read more.
