Saxon Shoes to celebrate National Dance Day with free dance class

July 26 2014 - Short Pump Town Center location, 10 a.m., Free
Saturday, July 26 is National Dance Day and to celebrate Saxon Shoes is holding a free dance class at their Short Pump Town Center location at 10 a.m. National Dance Day was launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe as an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity.

In addition to promoting dance education and physical fitness, the event also is designed by Saxon to bring awareness to the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement.

The Go Red For Women initiative in Richmond will be highlighted by a luncheon on February 20, 2015 at the Downtown Richmond Marriott. The luncheon will feature the highly anticipated “what’s in her bag” purse auction, “heart” stories from survivors, health screenings and heart health information. To learn more about the luncheon or how to become involved with the movement locally, contact Lauren Schingh at 965-6522 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

More information about the local Dance Day events can be found on Saxon’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/saxonshoes or by calling 285-3473.

Western Henrico Rotary helps fund Midwives For Haiti Jeep

Thanks in part to a $10,000 gift from the Western Henrico Rotary Club, another bright pink Jeep modified to travel extremely rough terrain has been delivered to Midwives For Haiti so that more pregnant women in the quake-ravaged country will have access to prenatal care and a greater chance of surviving childbirth.

The funds were raised at the annual casino night held in February, club president Adam Cherry said. The Rotary Club also helped purchase the Virginia-based charity’s first pink jeep three years ago. > Read more.

Is there an Echo in here?

‘Earth to Echo’ aims to become this generation’s ‘ET’
It’s no secret that all found-footage genre movies are the same. Grab a couple of characters, give one of them a camera, and expose them to something supernatural that’s content to lurk just off-screen until the last five minutes. Everything else will just fall into place.

But that formula isn’t particularly family friendly, if only because that thing waiting a few feet to the left of the cast is usually plotting their violent doom.

That’s what sets Earth to Echo apart from the pack. It, too, follows a group of characters armed with a camera and a tendency to encounter unknown life forms. But all those familiar parts have been rearranged just enough to make it suitable for a much younger audience. > Read more.
