The McShin Foundation’s 10th annual Recovery Fest and 5th annual KCBS Sanctioned Barbecue Cook-off” will take place from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Rd. There will be live music, guest speakers, kid’s activities, a corn hole tournament, vendors and more. Dozens of addiction service providers will be available. American Red Cross to hold a blood drive at St. Mary’s Hospital
September 10 2014 - In honor of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, 8 a.m., Free
In honor of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital, 5875 Bremo Rd., MOB Suite 206. To help increase donations during the month of September, those who come out to donate blood or platelets throughout the month will receive a coupon by email for a free haircut at participating Sport Clips locations. The restaurant and craft brewery opened in early June and features 10 beers made by female brewmaster Becky Hammond (pictured). This is the restaurant’s second location in Virginia; the first is in Arlington. Behind glass walls, customers watched the beer brewing in massive steel barrels. For our up-and-coming beer region, it makes sense that Short Pump would jump on board.
