The Central Virginia Wine Festival will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Innsbrook Pavilion, 4901 Lake Brook Dr. The event will showcase 10 wineries from around the Commonwealth, food, beer sales, specialty-item and arts and crafts vendors and live music including Big Enough, 44 Diesel and The Escorts. Proceeds will benefit the general scholarship and endowment funds for the Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Rain or shine. Civil War Food Festival planned May 9 at Meadow Farm

May 09 2015 - Explore Civil War history using your five senses with activities, games, music and more, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Free
Henrico County Recreation and Parks is hosting its second "War Between the Tastes: Civil War Food Festival" on Saturday, May 9 at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park, 3400 Mountain Road in Glen Allen.

This free family event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and encourages guests to explore Civil War history using their five senses in various activities, games, presentations, and music from the 1860s.

Visitors will learn about the historical methods used to prepare food to feed an army of thousands. Watch a unique cooking competition where competitors will cook using techniques of the 19th century. Help create and sample popular foods of the era at a variety of interactive stations. Tasting demonstrations will be available while supplies last. Period music throughout the event will be provided by Marshall and Company.

The 31st annual Lebanese Food Festival, hosted by St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, will be held on the church grounds next to Innsbrook at 4611 Sadler Rd. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 15-16 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 17. There will be food, desserts, music and folk dancing. Admission and parking are free. Rain or shine. Henrico’s most famous tree


Henrico's most famous tree, known as the Surrender Tree, still stood for more than a century near the intersection of Osborne Turnpike and New Market Road -- until June 2012.

It was in the shade of that tree on April 3, 1865, that Richmond mayor Joseph Mayo met Major Atherton Stevens and troops from the 4th Massachusetts Cavalry and handed over a note surrendering the city to Federal troops. Evacuation had already begun. > Read more.

ARC event raises $75k for ICDS program


The Greater Richmond ARC's annual Ladybug Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on April 11 netted $75,165 to benefit its Infant and Child Development Services (ICDS) program.

About 350 guests sampled fine West Coast wines and craft beer from Midnight Brewery at Richmond Raceway Complex's Torque Club, along with food from local eateries. Carytown Cupcakes provided dessert. > Read more.

‘Race to Protect Children’ scheduled for Saturday


The Race to Protect Children will be held at West Broad Village Saturday, May 2, to benefit Greater Richmond SCAN.

The 1-mile Kids Run will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. The event is designed to be family friendly, and the flat course is walker-friendly.

Henrico HS student selected as student playwright for ‘New Voices for Theater’ program


A Henrico High School student was one of eight students from Virginia selected as a 2015 student playwright as part of the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community's 26th annual New Voices for the Theater Festival of New Works, which will be held July 10-11 at VCU.

Elaina Riddell of the Center for the Arts at Henrico HS will join the other students and bring her original one-act play to life on stage at the event. In total, 150 plays were submitted to SPARC. Riddell and the other winners will work closely with New York City-based professional playwright Bruce Ward for the event. > Read more.
